On March 15, 2023, Jose Maria DeCastro was charged with Obstructing a Public Officer and Resisting a Public Officer when, while broadcasting live on his Delete Lawz YouTube channel, he recorded himself interfering with a Las Vegas Metro Police Department traffic stop.
On Tuesday, March 19, 2024, Jose DeCastro was found Guilty on both counts. He was sentenced to 90-days on each, with the sentences to run consectutively. He appealed to theNevada Eighth Judicial District Court. In the meantime, Mr. DeCastro filed a motion for bail and release pending his appeal. On April 1, 2024, Judge Zimmerman DENIED the motion. He then filed a motion for bail and release to the Eighth Judical District Court, which was denied on April 9, 2024.
On July 10, 2024, DeCastro's appeal to the Nevada Eighth Judicial District Count(C-24-381730-A)was heard. Judge Levitt granted his appeal and reversed his conviction, allowing him to be released from the Clark County Detention Center around July 11, 2024 after serving approximately 115 days of his 180-day sentence.
On April 17, Mr. DeCastro filed a Federal Lawsuit in retaliation for this arrest.

Jail Call Log Analysis

In early 2025, a FOIA request was made for any and all booking records and logs, visitation logs, jail records and call logs from Jose DeCastro's time in the Clark County Detention Facility. The only document returned was a redacted call log. Even with limited documentation, some interesting information can be obtained.
- An analysis of the call log shows:
- Over 2300 call attempts were made during his 115 days in jail
- Over 1900 times he connected with the other party
- Average of 16 connected calls per day over the 115 days
- Only 2 days show no calls (March 30 and June 1)
- Most in a day: 40 on June 5th, with 7 ending at the 15-minute limit
- Had 1 call terminated by the facility on March 27, maybe his YT live stream?
- Had reduced call volume, but could still make calls, for the 4 days after March 27
- Of the almost 400 that didn't connect:
- 214 times he hung up before connecting
- 51 times the called party was busy or didn't answer
- 87 times the called party either refused the call (1x) or didn't provide a positive answer (86x). Maybe went to voicemail?
- The rest are a mix of dialed number restrictions, account in use, 'manually entered block' and a few odds and ends.
- And here's how he spent his days:
- Days where he didn't use the phone at all: 2
- Days where he called but had zero talk time: 1
- Days with minutes up to 1 hour: 13
- Days over 1 and up to 2 hours: 24
- Days over 2 and up to 3 hours: 22
- Days over 3 and up to 4 hours: 42
- Days over 4 and up to 5 hours: 10
- Days over 5 hours on the phone: 1 Which adds up to a total of 115 days.
